Deconstruction: Face Manipulations

Dead Silence
Dead silence is one of the few films the contains a face manipulation.
There person being mqanipulated is an old woman who is considered the villian. However her face was manipulated differently compared to how we wanted to manipulation our villian.

 

 

• The production company has used a different editing technique compared to the one we will use. I plan to use photoshop as the clip I will be editing is only about 2/3 seconds long whereas in this film, the sequence of face manipulation lasts a few minutes.
• This would be more difficult on photoshop.
• As you can see the manipulations upon her face appear to change throughout the film. In all three of these images, her face looks different. This implies an unprofessional editing consistancy.
• The way the face has manipulated is different to how I plan to do ours. Here, her face appears to have gone moldy and slightly rotted whereas we plan to make our face crack and splinter.
• This effect is however very effective and scares the audience. Within the film, her face is only seen in very short clips. This adds a sence of surprise and makes the audience jump when they do encounter her.
