Deconstruction: No Escape
Appropriateness for Film opening
- I would say that this is quite a good film opening, because it introduces the villains to the audience, however, it does not fully go into detail what the organisation does, so if it was a film opening, this would make the audience curious throughout the film to find out about the organisation.
Appropriateness for target audience
- This film is clearly aimed at a teenage target audience, due to all the actors being around the same age to appeal to this target audience.
- Even though this is targeted at teenagers, this is more specifically targeted towards male teenagers, because the first main character is a boy, so that he is more relatable to the audience.
Appropriate for genre
- This genre is probably a thriller, due to there being a chase scene, but it isn't an action packed chase scene.
- The chase scene also adds to the suspense, as you don't know whether the men in black will catch up to the main character who is running away, which is appropriate for the genre as the thriller genre should contain a lot of suspense.
Editing
- The editing are all straight cuts, and I have to say, they are good transitions as it flows nicely together.
- The editing of the sound is very clean, as there is a heartbeat like pulse during the beginning and the end, to build up the suspense, but the moment the main character starts to run, the fast upbeat sound with synthesisers start again before turning back into a heartbeat when he gets caught.
- This is good, as the editing was edited to the sound instead of the sound being edited to the film, as this makes a composers job extremely hard.
Camera Angles
- There are some really nice angle shots, which changes the lighting as the background can be really light e.g. in the shot looking up at the guy.
- This shot makes the people and wall look darker than it is, because of the bright sky.
Titles
- The film title comes up at the end when the paper falls down, and it comes out of the paper.
- There are title credits during the chase, and when the main characters first come out, and it shows the actors playing them.
- I would say that the editing of the titles are not good, because they clearly haven't been manipulated by the editor, as it looks just like a default.
Mise en Scene
- Here the costumes of the two different characters or sides are clearly different. The chasers are dressed in a black suit whilst the main character is dressed in casual clothing.
- This shows the different power that each of them have, because wearing a suit would mean being very influential.
Evaluation
Overall, I think that this piece is quite successful. The biggest part which I disliked was the credits and the film title, because I thought they looked very unprofessional with the 3D and there was clearly no effort to edit and manipulate the titles.
However, I really like the sound and the way they cut the clips to the sound, and they fitted together to create some suspense.
I would give it 45/60
