Deconstruction- CCTV in films

Paranormal activity
A blue colour is used on the shot so that tit looks as though this is night vision from a camcorder. There are also faint lines across the screen which shows that it is bad quality- just as this night vision would be.

The date and time would typically be in the right hand corner as seen in the image as another way of signifying that this is surveillance footage.

This piece of real-life footage shows how the use of a bluey/greeny colour is typical in CCTV footage. Also, the jumpiness of the shot could be something we should replicate in our CCTV because it does not always run smoothly especially in an old, derelict building like ours.

The faded lines across the screen reiterate that this cctv and makes the faces more blurry, this creates a creep, mysterious look and adds to the horror feel.

Sometimes in CCTV, there are is a red record button to show that recording is in process, this could be good in our film because it makes the footage seem live and current and therefore the horror seems to be unravelling live on screen.

In the corner of the screen the word 'pause' can be seen in green writing, similar to how 'play' or 'recording' is seen at other times. This shows that the action is current and actively happening live at the time.

The date and time can also be seen and using a late time in the day is very stereotypical of horror films as this is when people are most vulnerable and afraid.

The film 'Devil' features a lift throughout a lot of the film and CCTV surveillance footage is used for this

the footage used here is not stereotypical of CCTV, it is good quality and there is no lines/ jumping between frames/ time of day to convey that this is CCTV. However, it is good because it is an extremely high angle shot, it separates the viewer from the emotions of the actors because they can only see certain parts of their face.

Also, it puts the audience in the position of the security guards so that what they are watching seems aimed at the,m and therefore more real.
