Deconstruction- costumes of victims

Costumes of victims in supernatural horrors
The victims always look very natural and normal, this makes it easier for the audience to sympathise and relate to them, they feel more similar and familiar.
The woman is wearing very little make up, she looks natural and at ease. This relaxed look is juxtaposed to the unsettling paranormal movement that is taking over their home.

The man is in a white shirt, showing purity and calm. This conveys how relaxed and comfortable he feels at home, creating dramatic irony because the audience know he should feel the opposite in reality.

The girls again look very natural and calm, the clothing they wear is simple and not flashy. This shows the audience that they are humble girls but also shows that they are vulnerable and easy targets.

The victims in insidious are the parents, here they are dressed in dark clothes showing how they are haunted by the terror in their house and it is reflecting in their personalities and everyday lives. Again the victims look natural and comfortable, they have to be down to earth for the audience to relate to them and to imagine themselves in that same situation.

The woman to the left in this picture is the main victim of the film, in contrast to the other victims she's wearing much more make up and dark clothes. This shows how she is a stronger character as she is playing the role of the step mother and so has to protect the children. The dark clothes continue the feeling of danger and horror and how the demon is affected all of their everyday lives.

This is one of the victims in the film sinister, he is wearing a chunky cable knit cardigan which is associated with older men and shows him to like his creature comforts. The audience associate this kind of cardigan with being warm and cozy, this relaxed feeling is juxtaposed with being on edge waiting for the demon.
He has facial hair which again shows how he is relaxed and settled in his environment, showing a contrast between the unsettling events that are about to occur.
The victims in the film devil are all on their way to a specific place which means that they are dressed for purpose, similar to the people in our film who are returning from shopping. This means that they look very normal and much like everyday people the audience may come face to face with in their lives. this makes them easy to relate to and also makes the whole film seem realistic and plausible to the audience.
