Editing lighting

In this blog post I will edit the lighting in the scene where the possessed girl is walking away from the two victims as the shot is very dark and it is difficult to make out the characters.

This is the original footage, though the first few seconds will be cut as the camera is very unsteady and is not in focus.

I started by cutting the first few seconds of filming so that the only footage left was in focus and there was no visible camera shake.

After doing this i changed the colour of the footage by editing the balance, this made sure that the colour in the shot was balanced and some parts were not brighter than others.
overall, this made the whole shot a lot brighter which helped to make the actions and the characters more visible whilst keeping it dark enough to look scary and in keeping with the horror theme.

However, after reviewing the footage is discovered that it was not as bright as i had hoped so i started to play with the saturation and the exposure

I moved the exposure up on the left hand side which made the whole shot a lot brighter. However, the danger was that i would make the background very white and bright whilst the inside of the car park looked too dark in contrast. As well as this, editing the saturation created a blue effect so i had to be careful not to mess around with this too much

I am quite pleased with the edit, my only concern is that the clock tower in the background looks too bright and an artificial colour which may need to be reviewed further.
