Editing the sound into the Jack in the Box scene

I'm editing the Jack in the Box scene again, to overcome some of the problems that we saw e.g:
  1. The sound didn't quite fit with the scene, as it was clear that it was a non diegetic sound instead of a diegetic sound which it should've been, and it would sound a lot more natural.
  2. The hand kept turning the Jack in the Box even though the non diegetic sound had already stopped, so we needed to find a way to edit that bit out, without having to refilm anything.

  • This was quite a short edit.
  • I used two different angles, as one of them doesn't show much of the hand turning, as the camera tilts just after the song ends. So this way we overcome the editing of the hands.
  • After adding in the diegetic sound of the Jack in the Box, I turned the decibel level down a bit, so it wasn't as loud, and I added in a cross dissolve at the end of the sound.
  • It didn't sound natural with just the Jack in the Box diegetic sound, so I used some of the room tone which I recording during our filming days, so that there would be a slight background noise, which made the scene sound more natural.
Here is the finished link:
Here was the previous edit by Abbie:

I personally prefer the more natural sounding Jack in the Box diegetic sound, which used the sound from the actual Jack in the box, because it fit more into the scene.
The only thing left to add to this scene, is the diegetic sounds of the two characters running up the stairs.
