Independent Study - Non- Diegetic Sound

Independent Study -  Non- Diegetic Sound

After researching the music which horror movies use, I decided to give it a go at making a short piece, which is around 20 seconds long. I also made it very simple, as it would be a good track to be looped if the scene is long.
For equipment, I used the software Logic Pro 9, and for the inputting of the material, I used M-audio axiom pro 49.

For the first track, I used the AU plugin engine, Alchemy to find a soundscape to create the drum beat that I used, which came in every 6 beats.

I added some indian bells to the track and I took this from the sample "Indian & Middle East Drums", as it would create a sense of something religious, which is usually goes with supernatural horrors, which is based around demons.
The sound wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I decided to edit the EQ of the indian bells, making it block out sounds from under 200hz, so the higher Hz rate is more pronounced than the lower

After, I decided to put in a flute sound, but I used a pitch bending tool located on my keyboard to bend the pitch downwards so that it would sound depressing.

Then before I finished, changed the volume for each of the tracks in the piece, so that one part that wasn't meant to be the loudest, was quieter than the rest.
This is an overview of the layers, that I put into the track.

Here's the finished product:
