Source of Inspiration: Costumes

In order to gain some knowledge about the costumes worn within Supernatural Horror films, I watched some films within this genre and deconstructed it based entirely on the costumes that the characters were wearing.
Insidious:

Within this shot the main characters are wearing simple everyday clothes. Although this may be iconic within a supernatural horror, it is also very symbolic. As the colours are very dark, this could symbolise death, evil and suffering. These two particular characters continue to wear these darker colours throughout the whole film. This keeps a continuous theme running the length of the film keeping with the genre. 

Following this I then looked at a film containing spirits and demons.

The Devil Inside:

The costumes within this film are different compared to those within Insidious. Here, the costumes are lighter and paler. This doesn't follow the continuous theme of the Horror Genre. The paler colours could represent cleansing and purity with relates more to the idea of exorcisms and religious cleansing. This could be another route to take the costumes down.

Perhaps if we did take on the idea of supernatural horror we could consider having the character who is possessed in the darker more sinister colours, showing that they are possessed and controlled by the devil and evil and those characters who are trying to save then in the paler, lighter colours.
