The Woman in Black Sound Deconstruction

The Woman in Black Sound Deconstruction.

The first thing that striked me, was the non diegetic sound from this trailer. It started off with a fantasy like harp, which depicts something very calm until it drops and the eerie sounds of the brass and the bass comes in.
The music becomes very erratic when the scary scenes start, and the music fits with all the cuts of the trailer, e.g. when the black screen suddenly comes on, at every single boom, in the non diegetic music, which makes it more dramatic and effective. They also insert very loud non diegetic sounds whenever something sudden happens, which helps to make the audience jump in their seats when watching.
Here is how the music is laid out:
0:07 - The harp comes in
0:10 -  Clip cuts, with a synthetic cut sound
0:21 - boom - Straight Cut to different scene
0:33 - Sudden Silence so that the focus is on the action, and to build suspense.
0:46 - Black screen
0:54 - Erratic Music starts with brass, and pathetic fallacy of thunder.
1:12 - Boom - Dark screen, with main character Daniel Radcliffe credits
1:13- 1:21 - Every boom would lead to a straight cut scene
1:22 - Blackout to meaningful words e.g. fear.
1:28 - Music Stops and the title comes up.
1:34 -  Scream - blackout

The diegetic sound is very emphasized in here, so that it can be heard over the non diegetic music. However, for the trailer, only the necessary diegetic sounds are used e.g. the breathing when he is running, everything else is deemed unnessecary and discarded for the trailer, but will be there in the actual movie.
