This was my original image:
I then worked on blacking out the eyes yet keeping the highlights in order to make it realistic. Here is how I did it:
I inserted a new layer, on top of my background thenused to Pen Tool to draw around the eyes, this made a selection over the eyes:
Now I need to fill my selected area with black in order to create the background and make the next stage a little easier to see:
I then needed to refine the edges in order to make the shape of the eye more rounded and natural:
Once this was done, I needed to insert a new layer in order to pick out the highlights. This was done by going to Select then Colour Range in order to bring up a box that looks like this:
I then played around with the Fuzziness in order to only be picking out the highlights. Once these were selected I got the Brush Tool and painted the highlights that I had just selected, White:
Once both the black layer and the highlights are placed on top of each other, the eyes look real and alive:
Already the model is beginning to look possessed. I then decided to make it look as though her face was falling apart. This was where the editing got tricky...VERY tricky.
I chose a cracked image from good images:
I then needed to change the opacity and change the blend mode to Multiply:
I then need to create a layer mask in order to remove all of the cracked image that isn't on her face. This includes her eyes, lips, eyebrows and background. On top of the layer mask I need to select the brush tool and then erase the background.
To me, this image looks pretty scary however if the photo we use for the actual film opening is in colour, the cracked overlay image may need to be rethought in terms of colour match. However, here is the final image:
