Photoshop: Pathetic Fallacy

I decided to make a bright and vibrant scene appear scary and unattractive. Therefore I selected an image from Google and did as follows. Here was my original image:

I went to filter then to stylize. This allowed me to click the Clouds button. This covered my entire picture which meant I needed to use a Layer Mask in order to remove the clouds from my foreground image. 



Once this was done I noticed that there were some spaced between to trees which meant the blue sky was visible. Therefore I adjusted the Black and White settings and used another layer mask to remove this from the foreground again. 


Again, the foreground image is still to bright and happy. Therefore I needed to dull it down a bit. So I went into Image, Adjustments then Vibrance. 


I lowered the Vibrance until the image appeared quite creepy and eery. 


The photograph still wasn't as I imagined it therefore I went back into Adjustments and lowered the brightness. This caused an effect that looked a little light Dusk.
