Before we begin filming, we need to know who our target audience are and how we are going to attract them to the film.
I researched several films in order to find out what sort of audience we were aiming for and why certain films are rated the way they are.
I researched several films in order to find out what sort of audience we were aiming for and why certain films are rated the way they are.
I mainly researched Supernatural Horrors which contained one or more young girls or children as the villians or creepy young children.
The first film i looked at was called Mama.
This film is rated a 15 because it contains a few moments of strong violence, one of the scenes is a man being chased by a supernatural creature and it ends with his neck being snapped. There is a small amount of blood shown in the sequence and there is mild use of swear words throughout.
The British Board of Film Classification says that there is a sustained sense of supernatural threat throughout the film. There is also a focus on child characters which behave in a strange and creepy manner.
The second film I looked at was Case 39.
This film is about a young girl who is abused by her parents. She is then adopted by the social worker who was given her case. The social worker's life starts to get much much worse.
This is rated a 15 because there are a few murders, for example there is one with a tyre iron and strong threat and violence are permitted in a 15 rated movie. It was not rated a 12/12A because in a 12/12A it says there is moderate violence allowed, but there is to be no emphasis on injuries or blood, and one of the main scenes is a man getting stabbed in the neck with a fork, and a young girl being burnt in an oven.
Our film opening will be classed as a 15 as we are planning to have a chase scene, where there will be a sustained supernatural threat of the young girl following the teenagers.
